She Captivates

We all know that she captivates our attention through her acting, consumes us with her voice, inspires through her musical lyrics, but did we also know that Cynda Williams can literally hypnotize us as well? Cynda has healed a multitude of persons as a trained Hypnotherapist after receiving certification from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI) in California! 


Yes, this beauty and brains diva has many tricks up her sleeves. She has surprised many with her myriad of talents. Cynda Williams (once Cindy Williams) who is notable for her breakout role as Clarke Bentancourt  in the 1990 box office hit Mo’ Better Blues is more than just another pretty face. To land the role in the well-respected Spike Lee movie Cynda had to endure an arduous process of prescreening that mounted to an intense
6-week period!


Once she landed the part, the enthusiast was instrumental in developing the Clarke character. This was a clench since elements of Clarke existing in William’s persona. While on the set she was fortunate enough to observe the accomplished Producer and Director Spike Lee’s genius approach to filmmaking. Where she took mental notes that would accompany her throughout her career. On the other hand, her acting counterpart Denzel Washington who played the part of Bleek Gilliam was not so accessible. Denzel’s pensive approach to his work allowed little time for casual conversing. Later Cynda discovered that outside of the acting arena, he is an engaging and funny guy. 

Many Talents

In addition to the Mo’ Better project, the invested Williams had learnt from the best and rubbed elbows with undeniably talented producers and actors in the industry which catapulted her to thrive in her role in films such as Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, The Tie That Binds, Caught Up, Divine Intervention, Gangland, 72 Hours, A Chance in the World, A Sisterhood of Signatures, Turning Point, and One False Move, where she was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. We can also see her most recent work in the Mad as Hell Movie Sept 24th Streaming - What channel? where she plays a character role as a police officer. 


Though determination was the catalyst for her fruitful acting career, her most effortless moments are spent singing, which has always been her greatest passion. The sultry singer has always gravitated toward the jazz genre. We got a glimpse of this talent in a later scene in Mo‘ Better Blues, where she blew the audience away with her octaves. Also, in her past life she was part of an Operetta award winning choir! Nowadays she is involved in various vocal ventures with an upcoming show in New Orleans at Sweet Lorraines on Sept 30th, where she will exhibit more of her jazz octaves.

Still more to give

With such a portfolio of work you would think her check list was complete, however she is not done enlightening us because she still has so much more to give. Her wish list consists of:

  • Writing screen plays
  • Producing
  • Writing Novels (she has already written a memoir)
  • Singing on a full album

Downtime

William’s personal time is spent in California enjoying family time with her 21-year-old daughter and upcoming actor Sophia Gabrielle Plummer, nature walks averaging five miles a day, Camping, Crocheting, or reading and listening to audio books. 


Message to the world

The endowing healer has learnt a multitude of life lessons through her various roles including motherhood, which is her most precious, and Cynda would like to say to the world: 

 “Always follow what you love” and “Find joy in who you are.”
